This project was launched in March 2020 amidst the dawning of the COVID-19 crisis here in the United States. The original intent was to upload and share a new tape from my collection every day until I ran out of viable content or until I lost steam in the operation. In total, there were 41 tapes shared to the world through this project, totaling in approximately 48 hours 23 minutes 14 seconds of aural content. Given the positive feedback the project received at the time, coupled with the immense amount of work I put into assembling everything, I have decided to preserve the blog portion of the site as well as keep all of the tapes available for streaming here.
Original Mission Statement:
We will all be spending a considerable amount of time confined at home in the coming weeks. Rather than delve deeper into depression I assembled this site to share and catalog some of my favorite mix tapes and other music-related items. This project is not only to help battle my own idle mind, but also to hopefully provide a temporary escape to others like myself who have always found refuge during even the worst of times through music.
Being faced with a global situation that most of us have never known, we need to find creative ways of getting through each day. Somewhere in between the 24/7 steady feed of bad news from all around, we need to be able to take a moment for ourselves and turn off the world.
This is not a call for ignorance, nor is it an advocation for apathy, it is fully to honor the human spirit and promote strength through what is inevitably going to be a challenging period in many of our lives.
Turn off the TV, unplug from social media, pour yourself a stiff drink and fuck the world for 60 minutes, because no matter how uncertain the current moment may feel, music will never forsake you.
Eternal thanks to EOH for his inspiration and wordsmithing on this project.
